Hartley Primary School

Art

Art at Hartley

In Art we enable children to explore their own ideas through skills in drawing, painting, sculpture and 3D techniques. Children are given opportunities to generate their own ideas, explore materials, evaluate theirs and others work and to build on their knowledge and understanding.

Every term, children develop a range of skills and then work towards a final piece of work. Children focus on a range of artists and crafts people through their work.

We have a dedicated Art specialist teacher who works with children to develop their skills and techniques.

Children collate work in sketchbooks and on paper. We display artworks in classes and during year group Fantastic Finishes, when parents and other classes are invited to look at and explore the learning.

Art in EYFS

The EYFS area of learning and development focuses on specific areas called Expressive Arts and Design. At Hartley, we promote a range of focused and independent activities for the children to meet their Early Learning Goal in this area.
